Artist Statement
My work is acrylic, figurative and symbolist in nature.  I paint the human figure and portraits, almost exclusively. I am drawn to the body’s shapes, forms and lines, formally.  But I also find the body to be an intriguing site for artistic reflection.  It can be sensual, beautiful, political, and spiritual.  Our bodies are tools of communication, expression and connection, and yet they keep us eternally separate from one another.  We can empathize with each other as human beings, but one’s personal perspective is uniquely one’s own, as we are the sole/soul occupants of our own bodies.

Place is also considered in my work.  The space in which the body lives has an impact on experience and personality.  Therefore place is often represented in the work, but frequently juxtaposed with the figure in an unexpected way.

My work is very personal, inspired by the people in my life and my experiences. It is my hope that the viewer will connect with the larger Human experience and find something in the work that resonates with them. We are separate, but not alone.
